There are three types of gymnastics. They are Artistic, Rhythmic, Trampoline.
Artistic
Artistic gymnastics is a mixture Athletics and Aesthetics. It is a beautiful form that is enjoying to watch yet requires an amount of strength. It was originally created in Greece among the Gods.
Participation:
The men compete on the floor, pommel horse, rings, vault, parallel bars and horizontal bars.
Female gymnasts compete on the vault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor.
Rules:
Each gymnast is allowed only one attempt on each competetion section, unless the attempt is interrupted by no fault of the gymnast. These rules apply to every sector except the women's vault.
In the women's vault, the athletes are allowed two attempts but the scores are averaged.
There are no repeating routines. Each gymnast must create his or her own routine, but they must meet the level of skill criteria relating to degree of difficulty.
Spotters are allowed to stand near the horizontal bars, rings, parallel bars and vault. They are present to help prevent accidents, but gymnasts are penalized 0.4 of a point if they need help.
Rhythmic
Rythmic gymnastics is another complete mixture of athletics and aesthetics. It is the most modern kind of gymnastics. Rythmic gymnastics is when the gymnasts, accompanied by music, perform on a 13-meter-square floor area with a rope, a hoop, a ball, clubs and ribbons.
Participation:
It can be both individual and team performed.
In the individual event they perform different routines with four of the five objects.
In the team competition, teams of five perform together one time using clubs, one time using two hoops, and one last time using ribbons.
This gymnastic event is for only women.
Rules:
A gymnast may perform in one group routine in addition to individual routines.
Must have 4 women in upper level groups and 4-6 in the lower level groups.
Must be 60 seconds minimum and 90 seconds maximum
Athletes must be of the same level in a group..
Trampoline
Trampoline gymnastics is basically self explanatory. It is performed on a trampoline. There are no objects involved besides an athlete and a trampoline. Trampoline is very much like tumbling, but on a trampoline. This gymnastics form is doing flips, air tricks, and spring tricks
Participation:
Individual men
Individual women
Rules:
Each routine must include 10 recognizable skills.
Must include one landing on either the front or back of the body.
Must perform a single somersualt, a double somersault, or something in between with at least a 540-degree twist.

A forward or backward double somersault, including at least a full twist must be performed.
Must be controlled and not sloppy.
No repeating a skill.
Second attempts are not allowed unless the first attempt is spoiled by outside interference.
A routine is considered interrupted if a trampolinist touches anything besides the bed (bounce area) with any part of the body, or if a spotter touches the trampolinist.
